How Adults Are Involved in YAG

What Is Expected of Me?
Thank you for working with teens in your area to implement this valuable program. Remember, you are impacting and changing the lives of the young people. The State Office requires that each delegation have at least one certified Delegation Director, and maintain a youth-adult advisor ratio of 12-1. Delegation Directors and Advisors each play important roles in the development of the program.

The Role of the Delegation Director

  • Serves as the point of contact for the delegation’s students and advisors. 
  • Serves as the link between the delegation and the State Office.
  • Recruits students and adults for program involvement.
  • Sets the standards for participation.
  • Plans delegation meetings and training sessions at the local level.
  • Prepares students for program area participation and adults for overall involvement.
  • Responsible for transportation of delegates to and from District Meetings, Officer’s Training and the YMCA NC Youth Legislature.
  • Responsible for all delegation financial matters.
  • Responsible for adhering to all deadlines.
  • Informs adult advisors about program specifics and changes.
  • Provides safety and security at delegation meetings, District Meetings and the YMCA NC Youth Legislature.
  • Serves as a program area advisor during the Youth Legislative conference in February.
  • Communicates with parents/families about necessary information and billing.

  • Involved in the student recruitment process.
  • Attends local delegation meetings when possible.
  • Participates in delegate preparation and training at the local level.
  • Connects with the students at the local level.
  • Serves as a program area advisor during the YMCA NC Youth Legislature.
