Governor Candidates

Victor Agbafe
Why did you decide to join YAG?

I decided to join YAG because I think it is very important as a citizen of the U.S. to be informed on how the political process works and to practice it and I though what better way to do it than with a bunch of my peers from across the state who are very passionate about politics but yet don't take themselves way too seriously.

What is your guilty pleasure song?

My guilty pleasure song would be "Roar" by Katy Perry

What is your most embarrassing story?

My most embarrassing story would be when I was in kindergarten and I walked into the girls bathroom.

Jordan Tsolis
Why did you decide to join YAG?

I saw YAG as an opportunity to meet people who enjoyed government as much as I did and to have fun.

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?

Baseball

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

Jennifer Aniston because she is pretty, hasn't had any drug problems, and from her donations to charities is a caring person.

Caroline Hazelbaker
Who is your political role model and why?

Ronald Reagan. He gave America a sense of hope that had been lost for a while, and he helped them believe that the good times were yet to come. He realized compromising your initial intention is sometimes necessary to reach your ultimate objective. He was the leader of the free world, but he didn't think of himself as "better" than the average American. All of these traits and attrib-utes of President Reagan are char-acteristics that I view as essential to be a great leader.

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

Josh Hutcherson: He plays the role of my all-time favorite fictional character in the trilogy that I love-The Hunger Ganes, as Peeta Mellark. Plus, he’s rather dashing.

What is your guilty pleasure song?

“Lovebug” by the Jonas Brothers. It always brings me back to the good old days of sixth grade (sarcastically speaking) when my only worry in the world was if Nick Jonas had a girlfriend; and if he did, that was not okay with me.

Pierce Shipway
What is your most embarrassing story?

I had fallen asleep during class and was having a rather realistic dream in which the teacher was calling the name of students in the class. When called, they would go to the front of the classroom to receive their graded test. The teacher then called my name. I, being a dutiful and attentive student, awoke from my nap and rushed to the front of the classroom. After a good ten seconds of waiting for my teacher to hand me my test, he asked if I was feeling well. It was then that I realized that I was acting out my dream. Dazed and feeling rather stupid, I sat down to uproarious laughter from my classmates.

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

Liam Hemsworth, a.k.a Gale Haw-thorne of Hunger Games. Whatever you want to call him the man is beautiful.

What is your guilty pleasure song?

“Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC.

Dawson Frogley

Why did you decide to join YAG?

I have always been interested in our government system. When I heard about my school’s YAG club, I realized that it was my chance to learn more. After hearing the experiences from members who had been to previous conferences, I knew that it was something I wanted to do.

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?

Most of my time is spent doing school work or playing basketball. I have played at the Varsity level for my school’s basketball team for three years. I have a great desire to play at the collegiate level, and I’m doing every-thing I can to reach that goal.

What is your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject in school would probably be history. I like learning about past events and how powers shifted among people in different governmental systems.

Ethan Dole

Why did you decide to join YAG?

I have always had a passion for politics since an early age, my family has been active in discussing politics, and my grandmother was a delegate in the State House of West Virginia for over twenty years, so when I heard about this club in my freshman orientation, I signed up immediately. Since then, I have learned so much about the process of government, it has been much more educational for me experiencing it, rather than reading how it works out of a textbook. Now that I have experienced first-hand what it is like, it has inspired me to take politics as my career path in the future. Studying and experiencing the process helps me understand how effective a person can be when they are passionate about something, and I want to use that pas-sion to help further my interests in pursuing how to be effective in helping our country.

Who is your political role model and why?

Abraham Lincoln. In my opinion, I consider him to be the greatest president this country has ever had. I respect him because he never stopped trying, he didn't fall into depres-sion from his many failures and pressed on confidently. I consider him a role model because he sets an example on how to look at life, by getting up no matter how many times you are knocked down. I aim to pursue my goals in that same mindset. He was tested more than any other president, and he had a vision, and never stopped perusing that vision, and with that passion, he became one of, if not the greatest president this country has ever had.

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?
I have always loved drawing, and I enjoyed reading comics such as Calvin and Hobbes when I was little, so I began writing my own comic strip. By reading comic strips, I be-gan to understand political humor, and things in everyday life that people make fun of. This lead me to become more serious in drawing. Soon I developed my own characters and ideas, which lead me into writing. Overall, it's a fantas-tic stress reliever, and when I'm just sitting down in silence drawing something, I get my best ideas.

Lee Homes

Who is your political role model and why?

Ronald Reagan; my family's favorite quote that Reagan stated, "Trust, but verify." This quote has stuck with me since I was thirteen, always being re-minded that whatever I do, I must confirm by action not only words.

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

Kate Upton. Have you seen her?

Michael Overton

Why did you decide to join YAG?

I have always been passionate about politics. Ever since I was little, my family has discussed the issues of the day and our ideas at the dinner table. When it came time to join clubs my freshman year, signing up for YAG was a no brainer.

Who is your political role model and why?

If I had to choose one person to be my political role model, I would probably choose Teddy Roosevelt. When he put his mind to it, he was always able to get the job done. Also it’s pretty impressive that he was shot while making a speech and then got right back up and finished the speech.

Ian Brizes

What is your guilty pleasure song?

Hollaback girl because it taught me how to spell bana-nas.

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?

Appearing in the back of television broadcasts.

Chief Justice Candidates

Andie D’Angelo

What is your guilty pleasure song?

My favorite “guilty pleasure song” has to be 99 prob-lems by Jay-Z. I wouldn’t say this is a guilty please be-cause it is a cheesy or bad song, but because I look ridiculous rapping along to it in my ’99 volvo station wagon.

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?

I love watching TV! It might actually be a problem how often I’m on netflix. Recently I’ve started watching Doctor Who and I’m obsessed. It should probably be noted that I also spend a good amount of time hanging out with friends and spending time with my family too!

Tyler Fox

What is your favorite hobby/pastime?

Shopping, nothing comes close to that hobby wise be-cause I hate the outdoors and love Burberry.

Who is your political role model?

Hillary Clinton. Yes, I am a liberal. Sorry not sorry. She is my idol because she handles foreign policy like a dream and she shares similar values to me concerning monetary policy and social issues.
