Your NC Y&G Food Guide

By: Anders Ljung

While some returning delegates know Downtown Raleigh like the back of their hand, many new “yaggers” are not that familiar with the area. Because we know how confusing navigating downtown can be, we have created a guide to help you find the best places to grab a bite in between sessions. From sit down restaurants to quick meals, there are plenty of options for everyone.

To find out which restaurants NC Y&G delegates prefer around the Raleigh Convention Center, the social media team posted a question on the NC Y&G Instagram story.

Here are the results:

24% - Happy + Hale,

21% - Jimmy John’s,

9% - B.GOOD,

6% each - Shish Kabob, Big Ed’s City Market, GiGi’s Pizza, and Fire Wok,

3% each - Beasley’s Chicken + Honey, the Mecca Restaurant, Sono Sushi, Starbucks, and McDonald’s.

Happy + Hale is probably the healthiest option and, according to delegates, the best option for lunch. The establishment provides vegetarian, vegan, and other options that can accommodate any diet. Furthermore, they are best known for their salads, smoothies, and juices. It is located across from the Sheraton and Marriott.

Next on the list is Jimmy John’s, which is of course known for their classic sub sandwiches. It is perfect for a quick snack between chambers. Directly behind Jimmy Johns is GiGi's Pizza, which is a good sit down option if you have the time. However, it is a popular spot, so beware of the crowd.

If you are looking for a healthy sit-down restaurant, consider B.GOOD. It is about half a block from the most popular lunch options so there may be a shorter line. Like Happy + Hale, B.GOOD offers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

Shish Kabob, which offers Mediterranean food, and Fire Wok, a Chinese restaurant, are also popular options for lunch. They are fast and very close to the convention center.

Big Ed’s City Market is a few blocks from the main conference areas, but its delicious southern cooking makes the trek worth it. The same goes for Beasley’s Chicken + Honey, whose specialty is fried chicken and waffles, and the Mecca Restaurant, which serves everything from fried chicken to Greek salads.

Sono Sushi was also mentioned by NC Y&G delegates. It is a block from the most common restaurants during conference, but it is the place to go if you are craving sushi.

Keep in mind that Happy + Hale, Shish Kabob, Fire Wok, Jimmy John’s, and GiGi’s Pizza are the closest to Raleigh Convention Center, so they are some of the most crowded options.

Whatever you are craving, you can find it in Downtown Raleigh! Look forward to a whirlwind weekend full of activities, competition, and of course, lots of delicious food.
